How to store the Expressed Milk?
The Expressed Milk should be filled in a well sterilized container. The container made up of glass or hard plastic keeps breast milk more protective. The containers must be well closed after filling up the milk.
One point to remember always is that, only fill 3/4th of the container with the milk. As the milk has a tendency to get expand during refrigeration.
Then fill the milk in a small container like it is for baby’s one feed. if it is more than one feed and the baby refuses to drink, we cannot refrigerate the milk again.
Until when Breast-milk can be stored?
With my experience,
- In room temperature which is less than 27 degree, I have used within 4 hours. Research says we can use within 6-8 hours.
- In fridge, I have used within 12 hours and the research says we can use within 48 hours.
How to warm the milk?
My first suggestion is that don’t use microwave oven or stove. As we should not directly heat the breast milk.
Have a warm water in a bowl and place the milk bottle in it. In sometime the chillness will fade away. Don’t use even hot water as the baby will not accept hot milk.
If the baby keeps any left overs. Please don’t refrigerate it again. It is recommended to discard it.
So, these are my guide on How to store and use breast milk after pumping.
