3 Simple Art And Craft Activities

Here i have give 3 simple age appropriated Art and craft activities which you can do with your kid at home.

6 months to 1 year:

Foil Painting

During the age group of 6-12 months babies are usually curious and playful as they start to explore the surrounding. It is the right time to introduce some lovely toys like blocks, ball, ring etc and some edible paints to develop their senses.

Materials Used:

  • Tin foil
  • Plain yogurt
  • Food coloring

Whip some yogurt, make it into different portions. Add different color food coloring to each portion. Then cut a square size aluminum foil and place the different color yogurt paints and aluminum foil in front of the babies. Now you can see the best painters in the world. This is a little messy act but it is a craft and creative activity which can be played in both day care and home with babies. Do this activity regularly with babies as they need repetition to understand and learn things. Start the activity with two colors and take it to the next level as babies grows like and learn more colors. Help the babies and talk with them like asking questions what color is that? How they feel? Don’t expect clear answers they will show it in their facial expression. They might keep face like Yuckkyyyyyyy. Give them more time to do their activity by their own. Don’t urge to hold their hands and complete it.

13 months to 2 years: 

No Cook Playdough

Activities with 13 months to 2 years old toddler aged children is very hardest thing to do, as they are at an age to often put any stuffs in their mouth and also restless to sit in one place and listen to activities simple activities are always better for this age range.

Materials Used:

  • All-purpose flour
  • Corn starch
  • Food coloring
  • Vegetable oil
  • Vanilla essence
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Cookie cuter

Make a play dough using the material given. Mix dry ingredients all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt. Then add vanilla essence and water. when the dough is in middle stage portion it into 4 and add 4 colors of food coloring to each portion and mix well to a play dough consistency. Give it to the children and make them play with it and you can see them doing different craft art with it. They may do an egg another might do apple etc. take this to next level to give them more colors and give them a topic like make rainbow out of it. They can cut the dough with different shape cookie cutters.

2 years 1 month to 5 years:

Watercolor and Salt

At this age, children are grown and they tend to listen about what is going to happen. And they develop new skills at all times. They can be able to hold all materials like pencil, paint brushes, glue stick at their own.

Materials Used:

  • Watercolor paper
  • Watercolor paint
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Brushes

This craft activity can be done in any method as kids wish. Just provide them the watercolor paper, paint, salt, water and brushes. Let them do whatever they wish to do. Leaving them at their own choices will make them to learn and discover new things. Some children will sprinkle salt on the paper and then paint on it, some might mix salt in the paint in the first and then starts to paint and some my paint first and sprinkle salt to it. Whichever ways but they are discovering some new things which is needed to be praised. Help them and talk with them asking questions what color they are using? What color is invented when they mix colors? Etc.
